The short version
This site doesn’t collect, store or sell any personal information. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics, ads or trackers. Every font, image and style comes from this site itself.
The one outside service is the Google Maps map in the Location section. It loads only as you scroll near that section (very old browsers load it right away), and when it does, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies (see “The map” below). If you don’t scroll that far, viewing the site doesn’t make your browser contact any other site.
What’s stored on your device
A small script, hosted on this site, lets the site work offline and runs the “Add to home screen” tip. It saves copies of this site’s own pages, styles, fonts and images in your browser, so the menu and hours still load without a signal. If you close the tip, or tap its Install button on Android, it saves the date so the tip stays hidden for 30 days. Both stay on your device and nothing is sent anywhere. Clearing this site’s data in your browser settings removes them.
The map
The map near the bottom of the home page is embedded from Google Maps. It loads only when you scroll near it. Once it loads, Google receives your IP address and the details of the request, including that you came from this site, and may set cookies, as described in Google’s Privacy Policy. The “Get directions” buttons open Google Maps itself. The address and “Get directions” buttons work without it.
Hosting and GitHub’s logs
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit, GitHub, and the service providers it uses to run its services, receive your IP address and the details of the request, such as its date and time and your device information. GitHub states that a Pages visitor’s IP address is logged and stored for security purposes, whether or not the visitor is signed in to GitHub (see the “Data collection” section of What is GitHub Pages?). The person who runs this site doesn’t see or receive those logs.
GitHub’s General Privacy Statement explains how it handles this information, and its subprocessors list names the service providers it uses.
marvinsgreencastle.com points directly at GitHub. The other address, marvinsdepauw.com, forwards here through GoDaddy’s forwarding service, which receives your request, including your IP address, before sending you on. Typing marvinsgreencastle.com directly skips that step.
Security reports
A security problem can be reported privately through GitHub’s private vulnerability reporting. You need a GitHub account to file one. Those reports are visible only to the site’s maintainer and GitHub, and are covered by GitHub’s Terms of Service and Privacy Statement.
Links to other sites
Pages here link to other sites, including Facebook, Yelp, TripAdvisor, goputnam.com, Etsy and Google Maps. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one doesn’t cover them. Phone numbers open your phone’s dialer and don’t share anything with this site.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top changes with it. The full history is in the public repository: changes to this page and the page’s source.
